Are Millennials Planners? Discovering the Reality Through a Survey with People Around Me
Not long ago, before I created my latest Chrome Extension, Side Note — a simple productivity tool that allows you to take notes right in the browser — I conducted a survey with around 40 people in my circle to understand one thing: do people my age really plan now?
How I Started
Before revealing the survey results, I’d like to share a little bit more about the context. One thing I’m certain of is that at least everyone “wants” to plan something. When we gather with friends, we often talk about weekend plans, holiday plans, and even plans to get rich one day. As someone juggling maybe three or four hobby projects, I must say I love planning I relish the feeling that I will accomplish something one day — regardless of the actual likelihood.
However, I never committed to any tools yet (I’ve tried many popular tools like ClickUp, Monday, Notion, Flomo, phone native note app, Figma, and even physical notebooks). I have to admit that planning and executing a plan can sometimes go against human nature. All these made me start thinking: millennials like me might like the idea of planning more in theory than in practice.
